My blood pressure is a
little higher than usual, probably because I'm a little nervous, but it is
well within the parameters for acceptance. I'm well on my way.

The nurse reviews my answers
from the registration form, which include the information such as
medications I'm on, the trip I took to Barbados last summer (you would get
deferred if you had been to an area considered endemic to malaria).
She also reviews my answers to questions designed to ensure I'm not at
risk of having or acquiring any viruses which may be harmful to the
recipient of my blood (such as HIV, the virus that causes AIDS, or
hepatitis). She explains how important it is to be truthful, because
someone's life is at stake! When I was finished here, I took my
blood bag over to a comfortable donor chair.
