Who Needs
My Apheresis Donations?

Platelets are clotting cells that
control bleeding.
Transfusions of platelets are
needed by:

Patients receiving chemotherapy for cancer

Patients needing open heart surgery and organ
transplants

People whose bone marrow is not functioning properly.
Plasma is the liquid portion of
your blood that carries cells and vital factors throughout your body.
Plasma transfusions are needed for:

Premature infants

Trauma and burn victims

Transplant and major surgery patients
-
People with rare blood disorders
-
People with severe liver disorders
Red cells carry oxygen and are
needed by people suffering from anemia and serious loss of blood.

whose lives were saved by platelet transfusions when they were just a few
days old. The father of the twins, Ken Fox, is a regular platelet
apheresis donor.
