Tips
for Running A Successful Blood Drive
Here are tips suggested by blood drive chair people
that have helped make their drives successful. You may get some new ideas.
And, if you would like to share your own success stories and ideas, please
e-mail us or give us a call at 1-973-676-4700 ext 104 and ask for Judy
Daniels.
Gain top level support. This
may involve working with a corporate executive, agency head, club
chair, mayor, pastor or other top level individuals. This support
may include: a memo to employees or members; articles by
executives in newsletter; executive giving the first pint, and a
thank you letter from executives. |
Develop a committee to help you with arrangements,
publicity, telephone calls and volunteers. |
Publicize your drive as much as possible through:
news releases
in your local paper |
contacting radio stations |
posting flyers and posters |
articles in your newsletter |
e-mail |
Use the telephone. Enlist a commitment from a
potential donor and call him/her again two hours before the drive
as a reminder. |
Schedule donors to the best of your ability. This
helps the blood center know how much staff, equipment, and
supplies to send. Appointment sheets are available. |
Encourage local businesses to donate small tokens
of appreciation for your donors and/or invite
other groups or companies to join you in your
efforts. |
Thank you's and recognition: Appreciate
the efforts of your committee and your donors; recognize
those donors who have, or will, achieve gallon milestones. |
Talk to your donor resources representative. She/he may have more
ideas for you based on your individual situation. |
Remember:
The most successful and influential method of recruiting is one person
talking and encouraging another to give blood.
